While there are some differences between the two products. New products come boxed, shrink wrapped, and with manuals. Discounted products often do not come with such niceties. They primary reason for a piece of electronics to be discounted is because it shipped without a manual or without the proper cable to hook it up. This isn’t an issue as you can just get a replacement manual or cable set but some people are picky.

Missing accessories do not affect the performance of the core machine though. Although if it was defective then that’s another story. Stores will sell defective products to people who can buy and refurbish them, almost always at a very low price. If you know what you are doing electronics wise this can be a great way to get a good deal. On side note, flick over to China electronics for even better deals

Another reason that a piece of electronic equipment may be discounted is because of cosmetic damage. This is often called a scratch and dent policy for some companies and involves damage to the exterior casing but the core unit still works well. Many people refuse to buy a product that has some damage to the outer shell. They are just being picky though.

Another reason the electronics may be at a discount price is if they are old models that need to be cleared away for the newer ones. Often these are still brand new they are just leftovers from the stockroom and they won’t be selling them anymore. You may even end up with one in a box still factory sealed. Again there’s nothing wrong with these they are just being cleared out.
