Vitamin Nutritional Supplements: Tips, Myths, Facts, and Online Store!

With dietary supplements making their way in our daily life, we find it difficult to survive without them. We have very smartly and effectively heralded these supplements as panacea for all ills. But as the saying goes, too much of even good things can be bad! So, we should be cautious enough not to make supplements our oxygen. To know your thresholds of the supplements, read on.

Myth: When it comes to vitamins and minerals, more is better!

Fact: A person might become hypervitaminosis if he eats too much of vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins like vitamin B and C don’t affect the body much if taken in high quantity as they can be flushed out of the body but fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A,D,E and K gets stored in the liver and might become toxic eventually if taken in large amounts. We get most of the requirements from our daily food (provided it is a balanced diet) but incase of malnutrition and sickness, you may need to take multivitamins doses.

Myth: Intake of supplements during illness harm our body!

Fact: During illness, cells are destroyed and exhausted adrenal glands do not function properly because they are deprived of nutrients. Hence body needs its fighting team of vitamin c, B6, folic acid, zinc in higher amounts. Other important thing to be noticed here is, fever and stress deplete most essential nutrients from our body. Hence the need for extra supplements is all the very more. Piece of advice: Always take supplements during illness after consulting with your physician.

Myth: Even if vitamins do not help, they do not harm!

Fact: All chemicals can get toxic if taken in high amounts including vitamins and minerals. Hence, it is important to consult your physician before taking extra vitamins or minerals supplements. For e.g., too much of calcium can cause kidney stones. So, it is wrong to make assumption that extra vitamin and minerals wont harm your body.

Myth: Supplements can help me lose weight!

Fact: You might come across various herbal weight loss products making tall claims and promising you quick weight loss. But the fact is, none of these herbal remedies work and some like ephedra, the banned weight loss supplement, can have serious side effects. Regular exercises and a perfect diet plan just makes the perfect recipe for the effective weight loss. And this kind of weight loss is long term too.

Myth: Vitamin C supplements help in preventing cold and cures sinus.

Fact: Nobel prize winner Linus Pauling advocated high doses of calcium to prevent common cold But it showed no significant effect on common cold. There has been no scientific data to support the effectiveness of vitamin C towards common cold. Infact, excess of vitamin C can cause gastro intestinal problems like nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps.

Vitamin B-Complex: Gastric Bypass Patients Must Supplement

The malabsorptive nature of the gastric bypass system prohibits adequate amounts of B-complex vitamins from food sources from entering the body of weight loss surgery patients. Annual blood tests indicate that patients who do not supplement their diet with B-Complex Vitamins are deficient.

B-Complex vitamins are found in both meat and plant foods. Most dietary supplements contain the B-Complex vitamins, but many WLS patients elect to take an additional B-Complex tablet. There is risk of B-Complex deficiency due to malabsorption and limited food intake. B-Complex tablets can be purchased in sublingual form - a small tablet placed under the tongue to be dissolved and absorbed through the soft tissues of the mouth.

It has long been believed, although not scientifically supported, that mega doses of B-complex vitamins will combat everyday stress, boost energy and control food cravings. I can recall years ago my moody grandmother taking a trip to see the town doctor for a B-12 shot. Much to grandfather’s relief she returned from the visit cheerful and seemingly stress-free. In those days it was common for women “going through the change” to take B-12 shots.

The Vitamin B complex refers to all of the known essential water-soluble vitamins except for vitamin C. These include thiamine (vitamin B1) riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3) pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) pyridoxine (vitamin B6) biotin, folic acid and the cobalmins (vitamin B12). Each member of the B-complex has a unique structure and performs unique functions in the body. B-Complex vitamins support energy production, the immune system, proper cell division and support the nervous system.

Recent research conducted by the National Institute on Aging found that women over age 65 with a vitamin B12 deficiency were twice as likely to suffer from depression as those with a full store of the vitamin. Maybe Grandma was right to visit her doctor for that shot of cheerfulness. Today things are easier, slip a tab of feel-good nutrients under your tongue.

Releasing The Emotional Roots Of Anxiety

Those of you who have ever experienced prolonged and unexplained periods of anxiety may have wondered more than once what the cause of it was for you.

When no known cause was apparent and the symptoms became intolerable or made you unable to function you likely may have turned to some form of medication or other modality to lessen its impact on your life.

To make it plain and easy to understand how I conceptualize the root cause of anxiety I will use the analog of a pot of water on a stove top.

Assume here that your awareness is limited strictly to the surface of the water in the pot. In other words you do not know that the pot is on a stove top and that the stove element is turn on to high.

What you see after some time is the turbulence on the surface of the water. Now if you had never experienced this before you might be hard pressed to explain what was going on. Of course you do know however that the water is being heated and that this is responsible for the turbulence.

Now if we go back to the situation with the anxiety. The symptoms of the anxiety which you experience emotionally, mentally and physically represent the turbulence on the surface of the water in the pot as it is being heated.

What does the heat represent in this case?

Well it represents all those uncomfortable feelings, thoughts and memories that you have stored within your mind/body (some call this the unconscious mind) that you are suppressing simply because if you allowed yourself to feel them you might not be able to function.

Unfortunately the “pressure” exerted on your conscious mind by this submerged material is great enough to make you aware of its presence. This is what you experience as the anxiety i.e. the turbulence on the surface of the water.

You have however sufficiently submerged the root causes of the discomfort (i.e. the memories themselves) and therefore cannot make a conscious link between the anxiety and their cause.

This tactic of trying to suppress uncomfortable memories is engaged because many “think” that by doing so they will push the offending material away and therefore feel better.

Well, like it or not, this never works. When this material is pushed away it only gets pushed inside and like a beach ball pushed into the shallow end of a swimming pool it will exert an equal and opposite force upward and outward into your conscious mind. The net result is that by trying to keep it submerged it only depletes your vital life energy.

The only way to effectively deal with the anxiety is to release the memory completely and thereby release the internal pressure. Most psychotherapies fail at this process because in doing so they leave the client vulnerable to re-experiencing the full force of the negative experience in what is termed an abreaction.

When this happens the client often feels re-traumatized and may leave therapy.

With a new modality called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP) the client gains considerable resilience and emotional strength as they are allowed to become aware of the offending material at their own desired pace. They also are able to completely, permanently and quickly release the offending material thereby reclaiming vast amounts of vital life energy.

This process is done over the telephone and is accessible by visiting the web link below.

Sheds Don’t Have to Be Too Overpriced if You Purchase on the Internet and Take Advantage of the Wide Choice

There are a lot of reasons why you might need a garden shed and fortunately there are garden sheds to match just about every last requirement. Sheds may be bought just about everywhere but what you will notice is the price will vary tremendously. You should not have to forego the garden shed you wish because it is excessively pricey though. A garden shed is something you buy once and utilize for a long time and when you take a look online you can find Cheap garden sheds at some silly prices. I do not mean silly and cheap as in quality but as in monetary value. You’ll find you can find the shed you want for the price of the one you were about to settle for very much cheaper and if you possess a garden that you tend to every day you will most in all likelihood want to look into a wooden shed as a place to place the tools, water hose and fertilizer etcetera.

Looking after your garden tools and having them well accessible is a real good idea. You can find cheap reliable sheds on-line that are the same sheds you’d buy in the shop. As A Matter Of Fact, you can even go to the store and shop even spot them to find if it’s what you require then you can go online and purchase it for a whole lot less. The difference in cost is significant!

Poker Seat Selection Dilemma

Many poker books advise players to choose their seat at the table wisely. Unfortunately in real-life games, both online and at casino poker rooms, you often have no choice about where you sit.

In the perfect world, you would be able to select a seat that puts the aggressive, unpredictable players immediately to your right, and the conservative tight players to your left. In reality, you will have to deal with a variety of players spread all around the table.

As in any game, you’ll need to assess the playing style of those acting before and after you. If you have been seated in a truly horrendous position - with a loose maniac on your left raising it up every hand, you will always be on the defensive and be forced to play too tight. In a live poker room, you can ask the floor manager to put you on the list for a new seat when one opens up. If another player leaves the table, you can always ask to change your seat too, especially if it puts you downstream from the maniac. You’re better off leaving the table, and waiting for better seat, than being put on tilt by an unpredictable player to your left.

One advantage to online poker is that it offers lots more options that live poker rooms for selecting a seat. If you feel uncomfortable with your seat in an online game, then vacate it and go to a different table.

Macronutrient Planning

How many calories should I eat, Doc? I’ve heard this question numerous times from athletes trying to improve their diet. They want to know what the best fuel is, and they want to know how much of it to consume. I rarely give them the answer they are initially looking for. That’s because, for athletes, calories are relatively meaningless.

Caloric intake alone tells us nothing about the quality of food in one’s system. An athlete can eat 90 grams of table sugar, 90 grams of a wild rice and broccoli mix, or 40 grams of pure butter and he or she will be getting identical total calories. But performance will be very different with these three items.

What’s essential is that athletes understand the difference in quality between foods, and know the gram totals of carbohydrate, protein, and fiber of the foods they eatrather than their simple caloric value. For one thing, athletes’ bodies are fine tuned enough to handle a slight overage or shortfall in daily caloric intake. More importantly, food volume-to-calorie conversions are based on bomb calorimeter tests. Such tests measure the amount of heat given off by 1 gram of a food substance burning in a sealed container. It’s very accurate. However, the body doesn’t process foods by igniting them. We operate fairly differently in how we break down chemical structures. That makes caloric values of foods more complicated to correctly determinecertainly too much laboratory work for athletes to do regularly.

The upshot is that athletes should think in terms of their requirements of high quality carbohydrates and proteins. Totals are based on lean body weight, nature of the sport an athlete competes in, and degree of daily training. Once those values are determined, it’s fairly simple to put numbers on an athlete’s diet (unfortunately space doesn’t permit right here). After that, it’s a matter of understanding what makes one food better than another.

For proteins, we look at how lean they are (the amount of fat that comes with the protein), how available the amino acids are to the body via digestion, what the ratio of various amino acids are, and how the body’s nitrogen levels are effected. There is no one single protein that is on top in all of these measures. However, a mixture of ion-exchange whey, egg whites, fat-free milk, and fat-trimmed white meat make it easy for an athlete to get what he or she needs.

Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are rated according to their glycemic index (GI). This is a score of how quickly a carbohydrate is absorbed into the bloodstream, and thus how it effects the body’s insulin and hormonal systems. Foods that have a high GIsuch as sugar, white potatoes, white rices, refined and processed flours, honey, maple syrup, etc.should be avoided, except in certain circumstances such following exhaustive training. Throughout the day, and up to 2-3 hours prior to workouts or competition, athletes should down carbohydrate of a low GI varietyfruits and vegetables, beans and legumes, low-fat dairy products, wild rices, durum semolina pastas, whole grains such as oats, etc.

It may sound complicated at first, but it’s primarily a matter of getting into a routine with the foods you like the best. Often, the hump can be tackled by a week or two of paying close attention to food labels, and keeping a nutrition log book. At the end of this period, do some calculations to figure out the contents of the food you ate, and to compare that with your goals as an athlete.

Also, remember that athletes need to develop a free, trusting mindset. That is a mindset that isn’t bogged down by over-analysis. Find a way to get into a routine with your diet so that your aren’t constantly thinking and worrying about your food intake, and thus not interfering with good mental habits. It may help to pick out your favorite fruits and sport nutrition supplements and carry a supply of them with you in your bag. That way, you have good nutrition to fall back on when your travel or when an obstacle to your routine arises.

BPH, or benign prostate hyperplasia, is a medical term used for a swollen prostate gland. Emotions Make Us Stupid

I want to take a simplistic, layman’s view of our brains.

Our brains are complex structures within which three main components may be identified - the reptilian brain; the emotional brain and the logical/rational brain.

When any one of these parts of our brain is highly stimulated it makes it impossible for the other areas to function. Effectively, this means that when we are faced with a life threatening situation our reptilian brain assesses the danger and in a fraction of a second reacts to keep us safe.

This high state of reptilian brain arousal effectively shuts down the emotional and logical brain - the reaction is immediate, fuelled by the release of a cocktail of hormones into our systems.

In such a situation if our emotional brains were to be allowed to get involved in the decision making process valuable time would be spent trying to match the current circumstances to past experiences and whilst this process is fast, it is not fast enough when we are about to be flattened by a 10 ton truck.

Worse still would be the interference of our logical brain which would want to evaluate and research options and alternatives before coming to a decision.

When we are in a high state of emotional arousal, once again, the other parts of our brain are hindered. How often have we made “emotional” decisions only to regret them later? It has been said that emotions make us stupid and there is some truth in this statement in that our rational intelligence cannot function when we are in a state of emotional arousal.

The moral to this tale? Be aware of your state of emotional arousal when making decisions. You may not be making the right one!
